The house on the right side belonged to a literature teacher I.S. Peninsky in 1830-1850. Leopold Koenig acquired both sites in 1870s. Desiring to get a fine project of a large revenue house he announced a competition. Rachau K.K., the architect of several mansions, villas and other buildings won this competition. In the years 1878-1879 he architected the existing building. Nicholas Roerich lived in there in 1905-1906. The famous architects of Saint-Petersburg N.I. Alekseev and A.A.
